It's chilly here in CA. I'm so fondly remembering August 11, 2007 at the Panic when the infamous jam happened! I added some pictures from the jam - so go and enjoy!

Now what?

I just put a ton of energy into being with family for two weeks, and now that it's over I'm overwhelmed. I have not practiced in two weeks nor have I had time much for my friends. So now, I'm going to add more gigs with Johnny, that's what. He plays the 1st and 3rd Saturday at Lou's on Pier 47 from 4-8 pm and I'm game! He hasn't figured out how to say my last name yet, but he's great to work with. He's kind, compassionate, loves the blues and music and has a great knack with the audience. I'm learning lots. I'm still amazed this guy thinks I play keyboards well. I have never thought that about myself. So, I miss Lincoln! I'm trying to figure out a way to get back and play at Pride, but there is a family conflict and the issue of coverage at work. I love what I do, but I'm completely dependent on somebody doing my job when I leave. It is not making for an easy trip home. One coworker is having surgery and has to be off work a while, and that in the midst of people trying to vacation.

The only thing missing is my friend Kara! Otherwise the music in CA is good. I'm playing every Friday night in San Francisco (hint hint - if anyone is visiting the city this summer or for pride)... please come on down! I'm playing in San Francisco's oldest bar The Saloon. I play with Johnny Nitro who is a Bay Area Blues Legend. Life is good indeed. Plenty of good things happening here and yet I still miss the thunderstorms. No thunder here, and it's probably done raining until fall now. I love the climate and I'll stay here! Thanks! No shoveling rain here!

Moving into Jazz

Yesterday I rehearsed with my good friend Joe (drummer - met him in one of the 1st bands in CA); Felix (guitar) and Richard (bass). I am playing jazz. No, I'm not going to be Diana Krall, but I have definitely taken a leap of faith following Joe and these guys. They like what I'm doing, and we're off to the races. Felix, is a monster guitar player. We started playing Breezin' - if you're familiar with the George Benson tune? He had this guy smile on his face, grinning, beautiful sounds coming from that guitar... a delightful moment. Richard - Bassist - wow. Incredible. These cats are talking about sessions they've played... allow me to quote:
"I really didn't get along all that well with Wynton, but Stanley Jordan is great."
If you know Jazz, you'll understand my thought process and the big gulp I took after the above comment.
Yes, I'm definitely taking another leap of faith. Maybe this is what you do in your 40's? Tags:
